GEF 2026 Energy Day

The Future Economy Runs on Power: Building Ghana's Energy Advantage for Sustainable Industrialization and Economic Growth

DAY 2 / 11 NOVEMBER 2026

Energy as an economic advantage.

Energy Day asks how Ghana can turn reliable, affordable and secure power into a competitive advantage for industry, enterprise and sustainable economic development.

Developed by Arthur Energy Africa (AEA) as Strategic Design, Knowledge and Outcomes Partner to the Business & Financial Times, the day is structured around the Africa Energy Competitiveness Framework.

THE AFRICA ENERGY COMPETITIVENESS FRAMEWORK

Five interconnected pillars.

1. Reliability & Quality of Supply

Uninterrupted, high-quality electricity for households, businesses and industries.

2. Affordability & Cost Competitiveness

Tariff structures that support industrial productivity, business growth and consumer welfare while sustaining the sector.

3. Energy Security & System Resilience

Diversified generation, fuel security and resilient infrastructure that protect continuity of supply.

4. Utility Solvency & Investment Readiness

Financially and operationally healthy institutions able to attract and deploy investment.

5. Industrial Advantage & Productivity

Energy that supports industrialization, export competitiveness, value addition and economic transformation.

THREE MAJOR SESSIONS

Assess. Reform. Create industrial advantage.

Session 1: The State of Ghana's Energy Competitiveness

Assess reliability, affordability, fuel security, system resilience and infrastructure constraints. The session aims to identify urgent gaps and priority actions for the next 24 months.

Session 2: Building a Bankable and Investable Energy Sector

Examine sector-finance reforms, utility solvency, payment risks, foreign-exchange exposure and long-term capital mobilization to improve investment confidence.

Session 3: Turning Power into Productivity, Prosperity and Competitive Advantage

Connect energy with manufacturing, mining, agro-processing, digital enterprise, logistics and export growth. Identify interventions that turn reliable power into industrial productivity and support the 24-Hour Economy.
